A New Day Rising

Discarded Wood
[ Reclaimed from Dumpster ]

7′ wide x 4′ 6″ high
The beauty of a sunrise. The strength and courage of a new beginning. Purpose and meaning for something once discarded.

After divorce, one can feel discarded and abandoned, worthless and without purpose.

Building the piece out of discarded lumber reclaimed from a dumpster at Home Depot was not only cathartic, but imparts tremendous meaning. Being discarded is not the end, but a new beginning. Even discarded things can be transformed into something beautiful, strong, and inspirational.

Leaving the wood untreated highlights its raw, natural beauty.

A song that was very meaningful to me after my divorce was Times Like These by the Foo Fighters. The chorus speaks of becoming “A New Day Rising”, which became a powerful and meaningful mantra for me – embodying hope for better days to come.

I… I’m a new day rising
I’m a brand new sky to hang
the stars upon tonight

It’s times like these you learn to live again
It’s times like these you give and give again
It’s times like these you learn to love again
It’s times like these, time and time again
